Big East Conference Commissioner Val Ackerman met with the media Friday on a Zoom call to provide an update regarding the "unprecedented uncertainty" surrounding college sports amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Ackerman said, "If our campuses aren’t open, we will not have athletes coming back or sports events or activities resuming."
That's a decision in stark contrast to a Thursday report which said that some conferences are still considering playing football even if campuses are closed.
"Our presidents are of the mind that if it's not safe for students to resume in-person activities on campus that student-athletes would not be returning," said Ackerman.
