CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball scored early and often, ultimately waiting out a one and a half hour rain delay to defeat visiting Villanova 23-1 at Hayden Field on Thursday.
Xavier improved to 19-34 (6-10 BIG EAST) with the win, while Villanova dropped to 8-37 (0-16 BIG EAST) while allowing a season-high 23 runs to XU.
Freshman lefty Nick Zwack was outstanding, striking out nine over six innings of one-run ball as XU bashed three homers to win in dominating fashion.
The run total represented the most for an XU team since May 15, 2007 in a 23-11 win over Toledo.
