Analysis: Give Xavier the credit for Providence drubbing

Videolicious

After Xavier men's basketball drubbed Providence College to open Big East Conference play Wednesday night, the head coaches of both teams made some qualifying remarks that seemed to attempt to soften the severity of the Friars' defeat.

To be sure, both coaches gave due credit to Xavier, but the focus of the remarks on the Providence side was about what they lacked as opposed to what Xavier did well.

Xavier head coach Chris Mack conceded Providence probably didn’t play its best, but Friars' head coach Ed Cooley doubled down on that sentiment, suggesting (with a straight face) to a Xavier beat writer that the two of them could have played well against the Friars' defense.
