Wyoming redshirt sophomore Bryce Meredith will compete for a national championship after earning a 5-3 decision over Stanford’s Joey McKenna in the 141-pound semifinals of the NCAA Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
The 14th-seeded Meredith, a four-time state champion from Cheyenne Central (2011-14), fell behind the second-ranked McKenna 2-0 but tied the match at 2-all early in the third period with an escape. He then got a takedown in the final 30 seconds before McKenna made it 4-3 with a late escape. Meredith got the final point as a result of his edge in riding time.
