LARAMIE — Before his team took the floor for its season opener Friday evening, Wyoming volleyball coach Chad Callihan told his players that the match would be “a blip on the radar.”
Just one of 30 matches. No more, no less.
It wound up being so much more than just a blip.
The Cowgirls topped No. 14-ranked Ohio State 25-23, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23 in front of 2,317 fans at Arena-Auditorium in both teams’ first match of the Rumble in the Rockies.
The victory is Wyoming’s first over a ranked opponent since Oct, 18, 2002, when it swept 16th-ranked Utah.
