Healthier, fitter Cowgirls are 'excited' for soccer season opener

LARAMIE — The Wyoming Cowgirls kick off their 30th soccer season Thursday at Drake with a noticeable hunger to put last season’s disappointing finish firmly behind.

The Cowgirls finished one win shy of a Mountain West Conference tournament berth in 2024 after finishing 2-3-6 in league play. UW controlled its own destiny in the final week only to conclude the season with three consecutive ties, including a 3-3 draw against San Diego State in which the Aztecs rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the final 12 minutes.

Falling short of the postseason when it was there for the taking has lit a fire in a squad that returns seven starters and eight key reserves, including junior midfielder Alyssa Glover, who spent the majority of last season on the sideline with a knee injury.
