Cowgirls score 4 unanswered to beat South Dakota in season opener

Trailing 2-0 early in the second half, the Wyoming Cowgirls rallied to score four unanswered goals and open the 2018 season on Thursday with a 4-2 road victory over South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Senior co-captain Annika Clayton led the Cowgirls with two goals while fellow co-captain Brittney Stark and freshman Amber Vokoun added one each.

South Dakota went into the break up 1-0 after the Cowgirls squandered scoring chances in the final 10 minutes of the opening half. The Coyotes doubled their lead with another goal 6 minutes into the second half.

Just a minute later Vokoun pushed in a rebound off a Summer Taube shot to put the Cowgirls on the board.
