Wyoming junior defender Taylor Burton was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the conference announced.
Burton, one of the Cowgirls' starting center backs, played every minute of both the 110-minute scoreless tie against Fresno State on Friday as well as the 1-0 victory over San Jose State on Sunday. Julia Glaser, Fresno State's star scorer who is second in the conference in goals, did not register a shot against Burton and the Cowgirls.
The Centennial, Colo., native also scored the game-winning goal against San Jose State. The Spartans' Dorthe Hoppius, the former conference Offensive Player of the Week, peppered just two shots against Wyoming.
