The No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers (6-0 overall) continued their perfect start to the year after a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-18, 25-18) Sunday afternoon against in-state rival, the Marquette Golden Eagles (6-2 overall).
The first set for the Badgers was really about the serving game of defensive specialist Izzy Ashburn. The junior had four aces on the night and helped lead UW to take the Badgers on a 10-1 run to bring the set to a whopping 22-11 lead for Wisconsin.
Head coach Kelly Sheffield said when she is serving like that, it can really impact the team’s defense and let UW’s other servers make a difference,
“[Ashburn} can get people to doubt themselves,” Sheffield said.
