UW's NCAA streak ends in cross country

The Wisconsin men's cross country team's remarkable, record-setting streak has come to an end.

After qualifying as a team for the NCAA championship in each of the last 43 years, UW will miss the national meet for the first time since 1971 after a sixth-place finish Friday on its home course in the Great Lakes Regional.

"We've got to go back to the drawing board," said Mick Byrne, UW's director of cross country.

In the women's meet, Badgers freshman Shaelyn Sorensen advanced to the NCAA final by finishing fourth.

Sorensen, who is from Lake Elmo, Minn.
