San Diego —The announcement of the 2015 Holiday Bowl pairing — Wisconsin vs. USC — sparked fond memories for Pat Richter:
USC 42, UW 37.
Ah, the 1963 Rose Bowl. No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Trojans and the No. 2 and once-beaten Badgers.
"For years after — and even now — people remember that game more for the entertainment that who won or lost," said Richter, an All-American end on that UW team, who went on to serve as UW's athletic director from 1989 through 2004. "It was a great game, one of those kinds of situations.
