For the first time, Wisconsin has a women's hockey team without Wisconsin — somewhat

This historical oddity comes with an asterisk.

The University of Wisconsin women's hockey team doesn't have a player this season who lists Wisconsin as her home state.

It's the first time in 24 seasons of the UW women's hockey program that there has been no Wisconsin under hometown on the roster. Add in 60 modern-era seasons of the Badgers men's team, all of which have had at least one player from the state, and it's even more of a rarity for UW hockey.

The big picture, Badgers coaches said, is that while they try to keep the best in-state players close to home, there's no real geography to their recruiting efforts.
