EAST LANSING, Mich. — As one of the top distance runners in the Big Ten Conference, Malachy Schrobilgen knew he had a chance to earn a conference title in the 10,000 meters on Friday night at the Big Ten meet.
He just had to stay engaged long enough to make it happen.
Schrobilgen waded through the tedium of the 25-lap race, and turned it on when it counted to claim the victory on the Michigan State track in 29 minutes, 19.55 seconds.
“I was just telling myself, once it gets to a mile to go, that’s race time,” Schrobilgen said.
