The IRA National Championship was held in Gold River, California. The Badgers placed 3rd overall as a team three points behind the Boston University Terriers and 12 points off the top spot occupied by Stanford.
Wisconsin earned silvers in both Lightweight Four and Lightweight Double Sculls finishing well behind Stanford and :05 ahead of Boston University in both. But the Badgers faded to 4th in the Lightweight Eight Grand Final while the Terriers claimed 2nd, a result that enabled Boston to jump Wisconsin in the final team standings.
Despite the pair of silver medal results, the quotes from head coach Dusty Mattison in the UW Athletic Department News Release were more dour than celebratory on balance.
