The Winnipeg Jets were seeking to take the next step in their evolution as a young team on the rise at the beginning of the 2017-18 campaign. And when they went home for the summer – losers of the Western Conference final against the upstart Vegas Golden Knights – they still could say, with confidence, that mission was accomplished. Every NHL team considers a year that doesn’t end with it enjoying Stanley Cup victory celebrations as a failure, but for the Jets and their long-suffering, loyal fans, this season was the biggest peak yet – and a sign of even better days ahead.
