Pavelec can't save himself

The Winnipeg Jets have re-assigned their long-time No.1 goalie, Ondrej Pavelec, to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.

Pavelec was one of eight players cut by the club this morning.

The leaves Connor Hellebuyck and Michael Hutchinson to protect the Jets net when the regular season begins Thursday.

Pavelec must still clear waivers before he joins the Moose.

The Jets also reassigned forwards Andrew Copp, Marko Dano, Anthony Peluso, Chase De Leo and Nic Petan, along with defencemen Julian Melchiori and Brian Strait.

Strait, Melchiori and Peluso all must clear waivers.

The Jets have 15 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders on the roster.
