BUFFALO -- The Winnipeg Jets started strong and then held against one of the league's lowliest clubs Tuesday night.
The visiting Jets upended the struggling Buffalo Sabres 7-4 as Nikolaj Ehlers scored a pair of goals, his 18th and 19th tallies, while Kyle Connor fired his 14th and 15th goals.
Patrik Laine opened the scoring with his 19th, Dustin Byfuglien netted his second and Joel Armia added his seventh into an empty net for the Jets, who led 2-1 and 5-2 at the intermissions.
Jack Eichel scored a pair of goals. His second and 17th of the year trimmed the Jets' lead to a just two with under five minutes left to make things interesting, Ryan O'Reilly and Jason Pominville also scored for the Sabres, who are last in the Atlantic Division and ahead of only the Arizona Coyotes in the league standings.
