Jets trail 2-1 in Dallas after second period

DALLAS -- Brett Ritchie had the lone goal of the opening period to give the Dallas Stars a 1-0 lead over the Winnipeg Jets after 20 minutes at the American Airlines Center Tuesday.

Winnipeg's best early chance of the period came four minutes in when Joel Armia's nifty pass found Shawn Matthias open for a Grade A scoring chance. Matthias' backhand was stopped by goaltender Antti Niemi but Matthias gobbled up the rebound and lifted the puck over an open net.

The Jets had another glorious chance at the end of a Tyler Myers minor penalty when Dustin Byfuglien chipped the puck ahead to Alex Burmistrov who went in alone on a breakaway from centre ice and was stopped cold by Niemi.
