The Winnipeg Jets have managed to salvage something for pending unrestricted free agent centre Kevin Hayes, who was not going to be re-signed by the club.
General manager Kevin Cheveldayof swung a deal Monday night in which the rights to Hayes were traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for a fifth-round draft pick.
That now gives the Jets four lottery tickets at the upcoming draft, to be held June 21-22 in Vancouver: A second-round pick, a fourth-round pick and two fifth-round selections.
The moves allows the Flyers to have exclusive negotiating rights to Hayes leading up to July 1 free agency.
