Put your knives and pitchforks away, at least for a day, Jets Nation.
Your team showed more than a sign of life Thursday night at the MTS Centre. It showed interest and emotion and squeezed out a 5-4 overtime victory over the Nashville Predators.
The victory halted a three-game slide (0-2-1) during which a lot of tough questions were being considered, things such as emotional investment and belief.
And there was more adversity to overcome against Nashville, in particular coughing up a 4-1 third-period lead.
At 51 seconds of the three-on-three overtime, it was Blake Wheeler — who had spoken up so passionately on Wednesday about the team’s plight — who came fresh off the bench to snap a 30-footer past the blocker of Preds goalie Pekka Rinne, ending the suspense.
