San Jose, Calif. – Winnipeg Jets defenceman Ben Chiarot believes the punishment fits the act.

Chiarot was slapped with a fine of US$3,763.44 Saturday by the NHL’s department of player safety for his butt-end to the chin of Anaheim forward Corey Perry Friday.

The incident occurred during the second period after Perry, a talented offensive player who plays with an edge that makes him unpopular around the NHL, drove hard to the net, which was occupied by Connor Hellebuyck.

While it was difficult to see during live action, the video clearly showed Chiarot reaching out his glove toward Perry’s face, with the butt-end of his stick poking out.
