Unrestricted free agent forward Lee Stempniak, a former Jet, signed a two-year deal in the off-season with the Hurricanes after scoring 51 points, including 19 goals, with the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins last season.
Another newcomer is 19-year-old Finn Sebastian Aho, a highly touted second-round pick in 2015. The club believes he is ready to make an impact in the NHL after scoring 45 points, including 20 goals, in 45 games with Karpat of Liga, Finland’s top pro league.
Carolina has high hopes for incoming forward Teuvo Teravainen, 22, who was acquired along with Bryan Bickell in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks in the off-season.
