Their intentions were good but the Winnipeg Jets couldn't get the job done Thursday night in their first game back after the Christmas break.

Calgary offensive leader Johnny Gaudreau fired a hat trick to power the visiting Flames to a 4-1 victory at Bell MTS Place.

The Flames (23-12-3) trail the first-place Jets (24-11-2) by a single point in the Western Conference standings.
