WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington Capitals lead the Winnipeg Jets 1-0 after one period here at Verizon Center Thursday night.
Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom opened the scoring for Washington at 14:38 of the first period, picking up a rebound and beating Jets netminder Michael Hutchinson on what was just the third shot of the period for Washington.
The Jets outshot Washington 10-4 in the first period.
