All downhill for Avs after one goal

DENVER -- The Winnipeg Jets showed a lot of jump against the Colorado Avalanche but couldn't solve goaltender Semyon Varlamov as the NHL clubs wrapped up the first period locked in a scoreless battle at the Pepsi Center on Friday night.

Colorado, which hasn't played sinced last Saturday night, looked sluggish at times and was outshot 10-6 by the visitors.

Goalie Michael Hutchinson's best save for Winnipeg came in the final minute on a quick reaction to a deflected shot from top of the circle.
