WICHITA, Kan. – and Ricky Council each topped 20 points to propel Wichita State past SMU, 72-57, Saturday evening at Charles Koch Arena.
The Shockers (12-8, 3-5) won for the third time in four tries after an 0-4 conference start and handed SMU (16-5, 7-2) just its second loss in the last 74 days.
WSU used an 18-2 first-half run to build a 32-13 lead after 13 minutes of play.
The Shockers led by 16 at halftime and by as many as 21 at the 17:49-mark of the second half.
SMU capitalized on an eight-minute WSU field goal drought to claw within 10 points, 47-37, with 7:10 to play.
