Shockers Hold Off Akron in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daniela Abies' first career double-double led Wichita State past Akron, 63-61, despite a strong fourth-quarter rally by the Zips Friday morning at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center.

Abies led the team with a career high-tying 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds as the Shockers improved to 3-2, their first time above .500 on the season.

"[Abies'] activity is probably her biggest asset," head coach Terry Nooner said. "I wish she wouldn't have fouled out…but I'm just excited by her energy from the start."

Jayla Murray recorded a season-high and Division I career-high 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Jeniah Thompson shot 3-for-4 from three to score 11 points off the bench.
