Cincinnati was destined to be a highlight of Wichita State's new conference affiliation. The connection had a great history and the programs are similar in all the right ways – toughness, rebounding, defense, fiery coaches and strong tradition.
On Saturday, the renewed rivalry provided another memorable, weird, frustrating, physical game in Cincinnati's 66-55 win at Koch Arena. It turned on a six-point possession by the Bearcats, who converted two Shocker technical fouls and a personal foul into six free throws and expanded a five-point lead to 11.
Wichita State guard Eric Stevenson got the first technical after, coach Gregg Marshall said, he told Cincinnati's Jarron Cumberland he was not afraid.
