RH: Defensive Effort Not Enough for Shockers

Wichita State's early offensive possessions – one-on-one, forced shots, guarded shots – foreshadowed a difficult game. The Shockers lost 72-62 at Cincinnati on Sunday and there's little to point to other than poor shooting.

The Shockers shot 26.8 percent from the field (19-71), its lowest percentage since a loss to Oklahoma in which it made 24.2 percent of its shots. The Bearcats, mixing up matchup zone and man defenses, rarely gave the Shockers open shots.

Their zone took away much of the Wichita State's inside scoring options by negating the pick and roll. Their shot-blockers took away many others.
