The Shockers won a third consecutive game in which they shot under 40 percent from the field and under 31 percent from three-point range. Wichita State defeated East Carolina 72-55 despite shooting 39.1 percent from the field and missing 19 of 25 three-pointers on Tuesday at Koch Arena.
While that needs to improve, there is a certain comfort in winning with defense and a low-turnover count. Shockers coach Gregg Marshall won a lot of games that way and a foundation of defense, rebounding and low-mistake offense opens the door to big things when shots fall.
