Over a year ago, Alterique Gilbert hit his low point. Gilbert, then at the University of Connecticut, sat out of the Huskies’ game against Temple due to personal reasons.
In the months that followed, Gilbert opened up about the mental health problems he’s faced throughout his collegiate career. He’s found ways to cope with it as he returned to the sport that he’s played since he was eight-years-old.
“My biggest thing on mental health is a thing that everybody deals with,” Gilbert said. “Different people have different ways of handling that and some of the ways I’ve handled that is self-care.
