DAYTON, Ohio
If there was one recruit that Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings can point to in his career that he was meant — meant — to have, it has to be Dan Muller.
It was in the mid-1990s when Stallings, then the coach at Illinois State, signed Muller out of Central Catholic High in Lafayette, Ind., and Muller would go on to become a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
But ask Stallings and he’ll tell you, with a wink, that there was something bigger at work.
“The priest that married my wife and I was one of his mother’s best friends,” Stallings said.
