WMU track and field coach Kelly Lycan fired, accusations of racial insensitivity

In a press release on Thursday, Western Michigan University announced Kelly Lycan, head coach of the track and field and cross country teams has been fired.

"Our focus right now is on our student-athletes and moving the program forward," said athletic director Kathy Beauregard in the press release.

The termination comes six days after the University announced Lycan would be placed on paid administrative leave, the day before his team competed in the 2019 Indoor MAC Championships at Kent State.

Sources close to the program accused Lycan of being racially insensitive while in his role as head coach.
