KALAMAZOO, MI - Western Michigan University will donate $5,000 to Kalamazoo Public Schools as part of a new grant from the Mid-American Conference to each of its 12 member institutions.
KPS will use the funds to purchase diverse classroom reading sets for six elementary school classrooms in Washington Writers' Academy and Woodward School for Technology and Research.
During the 2017-18 academic year, the MAC is providing $60,000 - $5,000 for each athletic program - for academic initiatives at elementary or secondary schools in an effort to build positive relationships within each campus community.
Funding for the grant is provided through the MAC's partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation, and the conference plans to make the grant a yearly contribution.
