WMU football seeks 'the bigger and the best' in future nonconference opponents

KALAMAZOO, MI - Western Michigan's 2017 nonconference football schedule is ranked as the 10th toughest among non-Power Five teams, according to CBS college football analyst Jerry Palm.

If Broncos athletic director Kathy Beauregard has her way, future non-league matchups will include more perennial powers than overmatched opponents.

During a roundtable interview with WMUK-FM's Gordon Evans, the Battle Creek Enquirer's Bill Broderick and MLive's Patrick Nothaft, Beauregard said the Broncos' 2017 season-opening matchup against No. 5 USC wasn't typical in terms of travel, but it was the caliber of opponent the program is looking to schedule for nonconference contests.
