KALAMAZOO, MI - When it comes to young quarterbacks, few people understand the development process better than Western Michigan football coach Tim Lester.
The Broncos' first-year coach was a four-year starter in Kalamazoo, where he had his ups and downs as a rookie, winning conference freshman of the year honors despite the team's 2-9 finish.
As a coach, Lester has started quarterbacks ranging from true freshmen to seniors, and as an observer, he has seen many fail to reach their potential after getting shell-shocked early in their careers.
That's something he's making a point to avoid in the development of WMU starter Jon Wassink.
