Over St. Patrick’s Day weekend, Western Michigan baseball squared off against the Butler Bulldogs in a three-game non-conference series. WMU entered the series with a 5-10 overall record while Butler entered at 9-6. Butler came into this series fresh off of a 6-1 win against Alabama A&M while WMU had previously lost two of three games to the University of North Florida.
In game one of the doubleheader, WMU’s pitching was lights out. Senior pitcher Chris Modrzynski got the start and delivered. Modrzynski threw 6.1 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 earned runs and had 6 strikeouts. Hits from second baseman Andrew Stone and right fielder Conner Henderson would drive in the only runs that the Broncos would need in this game.
