KALAMAZOO, MI -- The Western Michigan hockey team proved again last weekend that it could hang with the best in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
The Broncos defeated No. 1-ranked Denver Friday night 3-0, but they fell 7-2 Saturday to split their series. They're now 11-6-3 overall and 5-6-1 in conference play.
Goaltender Ben Blacker recorded 24 saves Friday night for his second-consecutive shutout -- the first for the team since 2009.
Western Michigan outshot Denver 30-24 with Frederik Tiffels, Chris Dienes and Sheldon Dries all adding goals.
Saturday night proved to be much more challenging.
