Western Michigan hockey's Andy Murray was named coach of the year for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Thursday evening during an annual awards ceremony in Minneapolis.
Murray, 66, has spent the past six seasons leading the Broncos and has amassed a record of 100-92-33. He turned his team around from an eight-win season last year to 22 wins so far this year.
During his acceptance speech broadcasted on NCHC.tv, Murray thanked the many players and support staff who help the organization every day.
"Certainly this award is a team award," Murray said. "I think we brought 64 people to Minneapolis here for this tournament.
