Western Michigan freshmen making early impact on football field

KALAMAZOO, MI - At this time last year, 30 players on Western Michigan's current football roster were competing under the Friday night lights.

Collectively, the first-year players were ranked as the nation's No. 89 recruiting class and third-best group in the Mid-American Conference, according to 247Sports.com.

The majority of them will bide their time behind their upperclassmen teammates, but some will see the field as freshmen, and if Saturday's game against Idaho was any indication, WMU's future is bright at several key spots.

Three freshmen - kicker Josh Grant, defensive end Ali Fayad and wide receiver Tyron Arnett - were key contributors to the Broncos' first win of the season Saturday against Idaho.
