Forward Anthony Mantha, 6-foot-5, and defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, 6-foot-4 inches, is the only Red Wings’ players that are 6-foot-4 or taller, so Holland used 10 of the Wings’ 11 picks to select someone at least 6 feet tall.
Holland used the ninth overall pick to select 6-foot-6 forward Michael Rasmussen from the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League. Rasmussen scored 32 goals and had 23 assists in 50 games last season with the Americans. He also scored a goal and three assists in four games for team Canada in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Under 18 Championships.
