Opitz Breaks Singles Record as WMU Downs Butler, 7-0

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan senior Jannik Opitz became the all-time leader in career singles wins for the WMU Men's Tennis team as the Broncos downed Butler, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Sorensen Courts.

The record came late in singles play as Opitz defeated Thomas Brennan 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 1 as the fourth finisher to put the Broncos up 5-0. The win gave the Hildescheim, Germany native the 116th of his career, surpassing Michael Calderone's record of 115. The record now gives Opitz the program all-time marks for career total wins, career doubles wins and career singles wins.
