CANTON, OHIO - The Mid-American Conference wants to shorten football games.
Not on the actual game clock, but in the time it takes to complete four quarters of football; halftime, TV timeouts and unplanned breaks included.
MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said the average game in the conference is 3 hours and 25 minutes, a minute longer than the national NCAA average, according to The Associated Press. He hopes for games this season to come in at an average of 3:20.
According to The AP, conference officials are studying ways to manage games. The MAC, in particular, has dealt with high-scoring affairs in recent years that has led to more stoppages in between scores and possessions.
