The Mid-American Conference is among five major conferences asking the NCAA to relax its requirements to compete in Division I for up to four years.
A letter to NCAA President Mark Emmert was sent on the behalf of commissioners from the Mid-American Conference, American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. The request highlighted the need for the institutions to have flexibility for addressing financial challenges for the foreseeable future due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also asks for a blanket waiver for relief from "a handful of regulatory requirements", including relief from financial aid and football attendance requirements.
