The rise of the show "Last Chance U" on Netflix has led to a new generation of sports fans taking notice and believing in Junior College (JUCO) transfers for big name teams across the county.
The trend has even spread to Kalamazoo with the addition of junior Rafael Cruz, Jr. last year from Triton College to Western Michigan.
Cruz helped Triton on its way to win a national championship in 2019 and he said the JUCO route helped him realize the grind it would take to do well at the next level.
“Junior college is different because everybody is trying to get the same thing, everybody feels like they are overlooked and are trying to get that offer,” Cruz said.
