How WMU outfielder Blake Dunn is preparing for shortened MLB Draft during COVID-19 pandemic

The NCAA voted on Monday to grant a waiver for an extra year of eligibility for all athletes competing in Spring sports after canceling all Spring championship seasons in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For junior outfielder Blake Dunn, who became the first WMU player to ever be named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watchlist, that opportunity is moot, as he has been preparing for this year’s MLB draft.

The MLB and the player’s association have agreed to shorten the draft this year from the standard 40 rounds down to five, as well as shortening the 2021 draft to 20 rounds.
