KALAMAZOO, MI – Western Michigan’s seven-overtime win against Buffalo put the Broncos in the national spotlight and a surprise on-field appearance from the sister of tight end Donnie Ernsberger drew even more buzz around the thrilling victory.
The team looks to continue its quest for consecutive Mid-American Conference titles Saturday, when WMU hosts Akron for the Broncos’ 2017 homecoming game.
Like WMU, Akron opened the season with a top-flight opponent, but unlike the Broncos’ close call against USC, Penn State thumped the Zips 52-0 in Week 1.
Akron responded with a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, then rounded out its nonconference slate with losses to Iowa State and Troy, before winning its first two MAC games against Bowling Green and Ball State.
