Shepherd attempted to gain his footing but found himself on the ground shortly thereafter, where he remained on the field for roughly 30 minutes waiting for the ambulance to arrive. During this time the game was delayed while over the audience of over 3,000, were left in their seats to only speculate and hope for the best. This was a highly anticipated nationally ranked matchup between the Broncos and Spartans, ranked 12 and 6, respectively.
According to Kristin Keirns of WMU Athletics, Shepherd underwent medical examination by Western Medical Personnel on the field and he was diagnosed with a non life-threatening injury at the time.
