Darius Phillips Named to Paul Hornung Award Watch List

KALAMAZOO – The Louisville Sports Commission has named Western Michigan cornerback/kick returner Darius Phillips to the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. The award is given to the most versatile player in college football.

Last season was much of the same as Darius Phillips, who made the transition from wide receiver to corner, finished sixth in the country in pass breakups. Phillips contributed five interceptions in his first year as a DB. He had a season-high two picks against No. 1 Ohio State. While showing the same ball hawk skills he did as a receiver, he also was able to prove himself as a physical defender with 48 tackles on the year, sixth on the team.
