Column: College football is dropping the ball by not expanding playoff in 2020

Since its inception, the College Football Playoff format has been riddled with controversy.

In 2014, 10-1 TCU and 10-1 Baylor respectively missed the CFP because they did not compete in a conference championship game. In 2016, a two-loss Ohio State team lost out to a one-loss Alabama team that played fewer games against Power 5 teams. In that same year, one could have made arguments for the 12-0 UCF Knights or the 11-2 USC Trojans to take the No. 4 seed.
